Hi, I’m Bonzai! No one is quite sure what I’m mixed with, but the best guess is a Corgi (Pembroke)/Basenji mix. My foster mom says I must be part goofball too. I’m not sure what that is, but it must be something cute because I am adorable!

I am extremely high energy and need a lot of attention and exercise to keep me busy. I like to run around outside, play with my toys, go for walks, ride in the car, be with my people, and I LOVE to play with other dogs. I would really love to have another active, playful dog in my forever home to help to burn off some of my extra energy. Even though I’m small, I could even be a good jogging partner for someone too. I also need a fenced yard to run around in. I love to run around so much that I couldn’t be trusted to stay near my house off-leash, and I don’t do well on tie-outs. I don’t like my crate very much, but I do need to be crated when left alone or else I will get into trouble. Since I bark quite a bit when left alone, I can not live in an apartment with shared walls. I am a little pushy and rude with cats because they are really exciting to me (since I have never lived with them), but would do okay living with tolerant cats.

I have worked on some training in my foster home, but I can still be quite a handful!! I would not be a good match for a first-time dog owner. I still need to work on my manners and basic obedience in my new home. So far I have learned “sit”, “down”, “come”, “off”, “wait”, “drop it” and “crate”. I love learning new things! When I first came to my foster home from the shelter, I was very possessive of my food and treats. I have almost completely gotten over this issue, but for this reason, I will not be adopted to a family with young children. They might not know to always keep their hands out of my food dish. I also still have a habit of jumping on people, and would probably be a toddler-tipper by mistake!

Even though I am extremely active, I am sensitive, very loving and a good snuggler too! I love being near my people and like everyone I meet. I’m sure you will like me too! If you are looking for an active, goofy boy, I may be the dog for you! Please email lisa@schnauzerama.org for more information.
