Please meet Drake, one of the goofiest, happy-go-lucky Danes around. Poor Drake was in a shelter, so we do not know his full history. Since he has been in his foster home he has been a very good boy, who needs work on obedience and work on trusting his people. As far as other dogs go - he is perfect! He is not the slightest bit dominant, all puppy in this boy...just ignores the other dogs or is willing to play. He will get along with any and all dogs. Cats: indoor cats are absolutely OK. Cats that are outside are like squirrels - free for the taking (hold onto that leash!)

He is awesome with people as well. Not much of a watch dog in the house, but will bark when he sees people...but its all talk...yes, he is a conversationalist.

Now the bad news ...Drake was definitely beaten, and a lot...he is extremely hand shy, you don't even have to go near him, just raise your hand at him and he cowers. He must have tried to run away a few times as well, so now when he's in the yard he will approach the door, but he gets very scared if I approach him. He slipped out of the yard once and I grabbed his collar, and he screamed! I let go, but still had to grab him, so grabbed tail, and he again, continued to scream...he really did fear what was going to happen to him. In time this will fade, but new owners should be aware that this will take time and trust on both sides.

Drake cannot, under any circumstances, be trusted off leash, he will not come back (because of the above) he will keep running! He will require a fully fenced yard of a minimum of 4ft tall. (he is not a jumper).

He needs work on obedience as well, it is obvious that when he was told to sit and wouldn't, he would get hit. Training with this boy will need to be consistent and steady. He pulls horribly on lead, and we are working on that with lots of hot dogs.

Back to good things about Drake. After the initial period of trying to mark his new home, he is awesome in it. He will come with a belly band to use for the first two days, He has not tried to get on furniture or counters, he has not destroyed a thing. He enjoys baking in the sunshine and lounging around the house.

For someone with big dog experience, who has time and patience, he is going to be a wonderful family addition. He is really a beautiful boy, one blue eye, one 1/2 blue 1/2 brown, and a horrible chop-crop job on his ears...they usually fold over each other in the middle of his head (quite funny!)
