Who can resist those big brown eyes? Duchess is an absolute sweetheart. She is very loyal and loving. You would never guess that her previous owners moved away and just left her alone in the yard. Thankfully, a kind neighbor cared for her until she was placed in an Animal Placement Bureau foster home.
She knows her basic commands: sit, lay down, come, off, go outside, etc. When asked, she will also patiently “wait” until you tell her it’s “okay” to eat at mealtime. She has taken a dog obedience class to polish her manners. Duchess is also housetrained and crate-trained; she goes straight into her “bed” with no fuss.
Duchess loves her toys. She even knows that the word “toy” means. Her foster mom recommends that she have a variety of toys to keep her stimulated. When she’s not playing, Duchess loves to cuddle in the nearest lap (although her foster mom has to remind her sometimes that she’s not really lap-dog size).
She does well on car rides. She also loves walks. She still has a lot of puppy energy and makes a great running partner.
Duchess LOVES people and is very obedient. She is gentle with calm children, but she can get excited around excited children, which could lead to her accidentally knocking over a small child. Therefore, her foster mom recommends that she be closely supervised around small children.
When it comes to other animals, Duchess does best with medium or large, male dogs. She will chase cats, but she is not aggressive with them. However, she is aggressive with small dogs and must not be allowed to interact with them.
