February update:

Poor Gretta just can't seem to catch a break with her health issues.  After her hernia, spay, hearthworm treatment, cherry eye and teeth cleaning, Gretta recently had to have emergency surgery for a bowel obstruction! On top of that this tiny little girl has a mammary tumor that could possibly be cancer. We were hoping that the vet would have enough time to remove it when they did the emergency surgery for her bowel obstruction, but no such luck.  Once Gretta heals from the bowel obstruction she has to go under the knife AGAIN! She is such a trooper, never complains or acts like the discomfort of all this poking and prodding is too much for her. Unfortunately, the vet bills for this sweet little beagle girl are starting to really add up. Any donation, no matter the amount, will help offset the extensive cost for this beautiful little girl. Gretta sends her love and appreciation!

November UPDATE!

Gretta has completed her heartworm treatment and is doing extremely well. She has been given a clean bill of health, but has been recommended to remain on heartworm preventative throughout the winter.  She even had a dental so her teeth are all bright and shiny!

Gretta is house trained but still has an accident every now and then.  She was an outdoor beagle, so this is a GREAT improvement.  She needs consistency with her house training for her to be successful.  Gretta is well crate trained and will enter her crate on cue.

Gretta LIVES for toys! She steals all the dogs toys and piles them in her crate!  It is adorable.  She has even been seen sneaking into other's crates and stealing their fluffy beds and dragging them into her crate.  She is a little THIEF!  A cute little Thief!

~~~~~Original bio for Gretta~~~~~
Gretta is a TINY beagle, weighing in at only 16lbs!  Even though she is small in stature, this little girl thing has a heart the size of TEXAS! Little Gretta was pulled (along with her companion, Gunther) from a high kill animal control facility in Michigan.  Unfortunately, Gretta was diagnosed with a very advanced case of heartworm, along with a large mammary tumor. Then, unexpectedly, Gretta developed severe abdominal pain and a fever and needed emergency surgery.  What was thought to be a mammary tumor turned out to be a herniated uterus, and we learned that Gretta had been pregnant but due to her uterine abnormality, she was not able to carry the puppies.
While Gretta was already under anesthesia, the hernia was fixed, she was spayed, and her cherry eye was repaired.  Poor little Gretta was on IV antibiotics and pain meds for three days to make sure she had the best chance to pull through and that she was as comfortable as we could possibly make her.  Now....her little body still has to make it through the difficult heartworm treatment. All of these procedures were and are VERY expensive.  Gretta is thankful to finally be in caring hands and shows her appreciation daily.  She is a very happy, loving little girl who can't get enough attention.
Will you please consider helping Gretta by donating any amount you can?  After her heartworm treatment, she will be available for adoption, so visit again soon for updates! Gretta thanks you in advance!
