The shelter thought I just had a bad case of flea allergies. The veterinarian thought it was likely, too. But after a couple of months, my skin is only a little bit better and the hair on most of my body keeps breaking off in little pieces. Now the nice dog doctor wants to see me a few more times so that they can check some things out at a special laboratory. Yikes! Those places need quite a bit of money to find out what is wrong with me! Since everyone thinks I am such a nice girl and I act spunky and healthy, they all think I should have this done so that maybe they can fix me.
Do you want to help me with my mystery skin “thing”? I would be very thankful for any help you can give! Hopefully I can post an update in April and let everyone know when I will be available for adoption.
E-mail julemson@wmol.com for any specific questions!
UPDATE MAY 2009
All my tests have been completed. The big fear was that I had Sebaceous Adenitis – a skin disease that use to be a real problem for many standard poodles. The test results say that while it looks like I don’t have a typical case of this, they cannot rule it out mostly because they are still not sure what my problem is!
I am doing so much better though so everyone is hopeful that I just had a horrible skin infection that took a long time to clear up. My hair is growing longer and softer and I don’t have any new places that look or feel bad. I have never scratched at myself and I have always felt good so things are looking good!
Meanwhile, you need to know that I ADORE attention. I really love to snuggle either on the couch or in bed. I will go in a crate but I don’t really need it and I definitely prefer to sleep on the bed at night – as close to you as I can get!
I get along with other dogs and will sometimes play with them. We are not sure how I am with cats or really small children.
