Shelby is a sweet, sensitive, and laid back girl. She loves going for walks, going to the dog park, riding in the car, chewing on her bone, and curling up on her big fluffy dog bed. But her favorite thing is getting attention. She is very loving and gentle.

Shelby came to APB from an animal control shelter where she was picked up as a stray, but she obviously had been someone’s pet. She is already such a great dog and a perfect lady. She is extremely well mannered, housetrained, and crate trained (although she does not need to be crated since she doesn’t chew on things or get into anything she is not supposed to). She also knows “sit”, “lay down”, and “crate” and is working on more training in her foster home. Shelby doesn’t bark often, but when she does, you will know it! She has the very distinctive hound bark. For this reason, she would probably not be appreciated in an apartment/condo environment. Shelby does also need a secure fenced yard or regular leash walks, as she can not be trusted to be off-leash. After all, she was found as a stray!

Shelby loves other dogs, and gets along with dogs of all ages and sizes. She would love to have a doggy brother or sister living in her next home. She does not have any cats living in her foster home, so we are not sure how she would do living with them. When walked on a leash by a cat, she was very interested and curious about the cat, but did not seem aggressive towards it. She also does not have children in her foster home, but has been introduced to children of all ages and was very gentle with them. However, because she is so submissive and gets anxious in hectic environments, she should probably do best in a home with older, well-mannered children.
