This silly boy may look calm and sweet – and most of the time he is – but he is still a puppy and he needs some exercise and playtime. He plays really well with most dogs but if there are not any young or playful dogs around, he can pester the older dogs, which they do not appreciate.
Slate does have some anxiety when he is crated. He doesn’t bark or carry on but he does salivate excessively so we have been trying just confining him to a safe area of the house when no one is home.
He is doing really well on the housetraining although he hasn’t had to let us when he needs to go outside because we always ask him so maybe it is more that he has learned the schedule.
As a puppy or maybe because he has a stubborn streak, Slate will “grumble” when he doesn’t want to do something and you try to make him. He has never shown his teeth or shown any indication that he will bite but we feel he would not do well in a home with really young children. He will need someone to be firm with him in case he is stubborn but yet not overly rough because he is also quite sensitive to raised voices.
We are not really sure what breed mixture Slate is so our best guest is schnauzer and whippet mix. Since there is a good chance he is part sighthound, we will require a fenced yard and please no underground fence.
