Before I tell you about Zuri, she would like a chance to say something. She says, “I know I’m deaf, but I’d still make a great companion. Just do like I do and listen to your heart.”
Zuri means beautiful and that is exactly what this uniquely marked girl is. From her blue nose, eyes, and ears right down to the blue freckles all over her, she is beautiful. Because of her deafness, she looks to you for visual cues to guide her in her everyday tasks. Her silent world doesn’t seem to bother her at all. She does remarkably well using her eyes as her guide.
Zuri is generally very quiet and rarely barks. She will bark if she wants in the house after being outside though. She enjoys playing and wrestling with her foster friends. Her sudden bursts of energy and her ability to run and jump at the same time are comical. She also likes quiet times where she will dig through the toy box to find her favorite chew toy and then lie down and chew on her toy or snuggle up next to you. She does like to follow you around just to keep an eye on you. She always brings a toy with her just in case you might be a few minutes and she will lie down and play with her toy and wait.
Zuri has completed her first deaf dog obedience training class. Her trainer has this to say about Zuri:
“Zuri, the pit bull female who is available for adoption through APB is one
of the best deaf dogs I have ever had the pleasure of working with.
She is a fast learner, is very sweet, gets along great with other dogs and
is very friendly with all people. Zuri is able to be handled in class off leash now and has great focus and attention. I just thought that those of you at APB would like to know what a wonderful dog you have up for adoption.”

Due to the fact that Zuri cannot hear, a fenced in yard is mandatory.
