Do you have what it takes? Know the commitment of taking on a senior dog. While you should be observant of every animal you own, you should be especially watchful of any changes in a senior dog. The quicker a problem is diagnosed, the quicker and easier it is to treat. And the dog has a better chance of recovering. Don’t assume the dog will only live a little while! Recently a past adopter lost her shih tzu at 19 years of age. She adopted him when he was 12 years old. Just because a dog is older, they will still need attention and exercise. In fact, exercise will keep them healthier and more active, the same as it is for humans. Most senior dogs have been pampered and loved. They will still need human touch and love, something anyone can give. Before you decide to adopt a senior dog, make sure the one you are interested in will be compatible with your household and lifestyle. A senior border collie may still need a lot of exercise as opposed to a senior poodle.Back to the Senior Page |
