Sadie was adopted by the Rule family in the Spring of 2006. Being an
older (8 years+) dog, her chances for adoption were lower than the more
spirited, younger dogs. For some reason, Stephanie Rule, still
grieving from the passing of her dog of 10 years, was looking online and
suddenly, it was “love” at first site of Sadie. She and her husband
traveled from North of Grand Rapids, MI to
Lansing, MI
and adopted Sadie. Sadie was scared and didn’t want to come out of her
cage for a few hours, but little by little, she was eventually coaxed
out by her new dog brother,
Chester, the Gordon Setter. Over the next 18
months, Sadie had the life that she always deserved. She slept with her
Mom and Dad and enjoyed long walks in the neighborhood and great places
to check out in her big yard. Sadie eventually became very playful and
often wrestled around, in her gentle way, with her parents and even
Chester. She enjoyed an occasional chew bone and
loved to bark at the squirrels in the backyard with that typical Beagle
howl/bark! Three days before Sadie’s death, she suddenly could not
walk or move her back end. After an X-ray, it was determined that her
little back had been deteriorating, yet she never complained or showed
the least bit of distain. After only two days, the prognosis was clear
and little Sadie was in uncontrollable pain. Her Daddy and a very nice
vet from Howard City, MI (who did not charge due to knowing we had
adopted Sadie) petted her head as she slipped away and onward. We are
sure she is chasing squirrels in heaven.
