Qeela... Qeela came to us after her life in a Missouri Puppy Mill. We
can only assume they didn't want her because she had Congestive Heart
Failure. Lucky for her that she got out, however that came about, because
she needed to see a Doctor. Qeela has been to the doggy Doctor now, she
is 12.2 lbs when she should weigh around 16 and she has a Grade 4 (out
of 6) heart murmur which is pretty bad news for most dogs. Our Vet did
say that her heart is pumping evenly, her temp & heart rate were Ok,
BUT...he found an additional mass on the Right side of her heart which
we were unable to determine what it is....so Qeela will also need to visit
the Cardiologist at Michigan State University, in order for us to completely
understand how to treat Qeela. In the meantime, she will be on 14 pills
a day to keep her heart stable ...and to keep her happy. Qeela seems completely
unaware of the fact that she's seriously ill. She loves to give kisses
and lots of them, she likes to run thru the yard, she likes to play with
her foster sibling puppies, she loves this new thing called -life! Thru
and thru this little lady is a trooper, she even melted the hearts of
the fine folks at the vets office. Qeela just wants the life that any
dog would want: To be loved and live a long happy life, will you help
us give that to Qeela? She needs sponsors to pay for her extensive vet
visits and her daily medications. If you would like info about Qeela,
feel free to contact her foster mom at julemson@wmol.com
Update - 3/14/06
Qeela has seen the cardiologist at Michigan State University, and unfortunately
they did not have good news. Qeela is in Heart Failure. She has a Pulminary
Stenosis Heart Murmur as well as Tricuspid Dysplasia http://www.gglrc.org/articles/tvd.shtml
this is where her Tricuspid valve leaks blood back into her right atrium
which causes pressure in her in the veins to rise. Fluid oozes from the
vein into her abdominal cavity and this gives her a very pregnant appearance,
as well as some slight discomfort in carrying around 5lbs of extra weight
in her belly. Unfortunately she does not have much time left on this earth,
before she is given her wings. She will be on two new medications in the
hopes of keeping her comfortable as long as possible, but the vets did
say that she may have only a month to a few months left. Please say lots
of prayers for Qeela and for her foster mom, who will have to euthanize
Qeela in due time. On a happy note - Qeela has yet to show a single sign
of being sickly. She plays and licks and kisses and runs and enjoys life
as much as her little body lets her.
Update - 6-15-06
Qeela continues to do just fine healthwise, even though
she resembles a pregnant goat in appearance..haha.
We are currently trying to raise funds to have fluid
drawn from her abdoman in the hopes of improving her quality of life for as
long as we can. Draining fluid would help her to not appear pregnant and
take an unwanted 5lbs off that she has to carry around. Qeela has now deemed
herself worthy of gardening in the front yard with me and listens very well,
she enjoys just plodding around sniffing all that can be sniffed. Please
continue to keep Qeela in your thoughts.
