....Terrie Wilson & Tom Olson!

How long have you been with APB?
We adopted our first dog, Maggie, from APB in July 2001. We started volunteering at Pet Parades shortly after that.

Why did you sign up to work with the group?
After we adopted Maggie we felt like we should help out the group that saved our sweet beastie! We started by attending Pet Parades only, then our involvement increased over time.

What kinds of things do you do with APB?
We divide the work - Tom is the transportation, bath, and Pet Parade person. Terrie is the application, medical care, and doggy laundry person. We share feeding and poop cleaning duties! Tom also is our group's liaison to Clinton County Animal Control in St. Johns. He goes up to the shelter weekly to temperment test adoptable dogs, takes pictures of them, and then posts them to rescue group email lists.

What's your favorite kind of dog, and would it be your favorite kind of dog to foster?
Well, we are known as the "Pug People" of the group. We didn't realize we were Pug people until we brought home a temp foster a few years ago. She was the first Pug we had ever been around. We took her home on a Friday night and by Saturday morning we were hooked! Her name is Moo Shu, and we still have her. :)

What's your most memorable foster/volunteer experience?
How could we name just one? We have adopted out around 30 dogs, and each one was special. We have had many good times with our fellow volunteers, too. I suppose, though, that one of the most memorable fostering experiences was our first official Pug foster, Daisy Mae. She was blind, deaf, 10 years old, and had been abandoned at a shelter by her owner. We thought no one would ever want to adopt her, but we found the most wonderful couple in Ohio who later adopted a second Pug, Pearl, from us.

If you should share one doggie lesson with folks, what would it be?
Trust your gut, whether it's about an adoption decision, a dog that you are thinking about bringing into your home as a foster, whatever. Our gut instincts have not been wrong!

Anything else you'd like to share?
When people ask "how can you take in those dogs then give them away?" I reply "I can't NOT do it." We both enjoy rescue work very, very much, and we have made great friends with our fellow volunteers. Animal rescue rocks!
