VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES

Which of the following activities are you interested in? (Check all that apply.) Please note that there are times when we do not need help in certain areas.

Foster care for dogs. A dog will live in your home as a member of your family until adopted. You would be responsible for making sure the dog gets to the vet when appropriate, to Pet Parade every other Sunday, emailing and at times, talking to prospective adopters about your dog.

Temporary foster care for dogs. Care for dogs in your home when a permanent foster family goes out of town. Temporary foster care is typically needed for periods of 1-14 days.

Pet Parade on alternating Sundays at Petco in Frandor. Working from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. (or a little later) to assist in walking dogs, talking with prospective adopters, and keeping the dogs comfortable and quiet. Assist arriving foster parents with setting up crates and bringing dogs into the store.

Transport. Pick up dogs from a shelter or other driver and relay them to another driver or rescue group in another city. 

Telephones. Picking up messages from our voice mail system and forwarding messages to appropriate volunteers or board members, returning calls for information, or to elicit more detail from the caller, etc.

Home Inspections. Visit potential adopters home, evaluate & fill out interview forms.

Qualifying References. Call references given by potential adopters & verify.

Posting Flyers. Routinely put up or replace APB flyers at approved locations in local stores. Help distribute brochures for APB events to pet stores and pet-related other locations.

Newsletter. Writing articles, collecting articles and information.

Fundraising. Soliciting help, arranging events, sending thank-you's, contacting media, coordinating volunteers, and working at events.

Dog Training. Must have experience. Helping our foster dogs become more adoptable, and/or taking them to classes.

Crafts. Make crafts or solicit people to donate crafts to sell at fundraisers.

We try to have new volunteer orientation meetings occasionally at 6:30 PM on a weeknight. Would you be able to attend an evening meeting?
